The Palouse

The sun turns crimson at the end of the day over Palouse farmland as seen from Steptoe Butte.

This old truck and dairy barn are at a photographers’ favorite spot in Colfax, Washington. The owners of the property were friendly and good sports when we were there, asking only that we stay away from the other side of the property where their house is. This dreamy scene was captured one morning when I went on a solo walk during a photo workshop I co-lead, because the light and fog were too good to resist. What I love about this shot is what you don’t see. Although this looks like a remote canyon, it’s actually in the middle of Colfax, WA, where the Palouse River enters the town.
