John Gruber Eviscerates Mac FUD Article
I saw the article yesterday splashed on front pages of news outlets, “Viruses Catch Up to the Mac,” and knew immediately that it was uninformed FUD (Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt). Not only because I follow the Macintosh world, where, in fact, viruses have not caught up to the Mac, but because it starts out with ...
Catapult: Capture Video Direct to iPod
I’ve had only a few chances to absorb the news that’s coming out of NAB in Las Vegas. The RED camera (still in development) seems to be a big hit, especially if you’re reading the sleepless Mike Curtis’s HD for Indies blog. But if you’re not as excited about spending $17,500 for a cutting-edge HD ...

Ten video sharing services compared
Via CamcorderInfo, DV Guru has posted a comparison of ten video sharing services. The way these sites have exploded in popularity lately (or maybe it’s just media attention?) is a little surprising, though clearly its been building for months.

Crowded Apple booth Originally uploaded by Jeff Carlson. Macworld Expo is now over, and I have the stack of business cards, brochures, and a wee bit of swag to show for it. My favorite giveaway was a Google Earth notepad, which has one of those images that change depending on the angle you view it ...
Last South Africa Photos
Leopard drinking Originally uploaded by Jeff Carlson. I’ve finally uploaded all of the South Africa photos that we rated 5-stars in iPhoto. Click the photo at right, or go to my South Africa Trip photo set. I’m also happy to report that jetlag seems to finally be passing, and life is getting back to normal. ...
Lions at Londolozi
Something on the horizon Originally uploaded by Jeff Carlson. We went on three wildlife tours while in South Africa. At the first, Hilltop Camp in Hluhluwe, we spotted one lion on a hilltop; you could see her face, but that was about it. At the second, the walking tour at Imfolozi, we didn’t see any ...
Home, and Photos!
Giraffe Originally uploaded by Jeff Carlson. As we were leaving the plane in Seattle tonight, I realized that my sister-in-law’s family have gone to bed twice since dropping us off at the airport in Johannesburg. It’s been a sometimes grueling 30-some-odd hours of airplane/airport travel, but now Kim and I are home. Home also means ...
South African Chocolate Bars
I don’t know why, but candy bars in other countries hold a particular fascination for me. It started in England, where I discovered all sorts of variations not found in the States (and I typically don’t buy much chocolate at home). Magical Cadbury vending machines are found in lots of locations, filled with bars offering ...
