Take Control of Your Digital Storage v2.3

The latest version of my book on digital storage on the Mac is updated and expanded for macOS Ventura and macOS Sonoma.

The latest version of my book Take Control of Your Digital Storage, 2nd Edition is now available, updating the content for macOS 13 Ventura and the upcoming macOS 14 Sonoma. In addition to sprucing up the whole 160-page book, this version 2.3 adds a few new important things:

  • With the release of the new Mac Pro, I added a section on PCI Express (PCIe) as a storage interface, which is a way to add lots of speedy SSD storage internally.
  • Apple changed the architecture of how files from cloud services like Dropbox and Google Drive are stored on disk, and what that means for you. (It’s also a topic I cover in the recently-updated Take Control of Managing Your Files, 2nd Edition, which is a great companion title to this book!)
  • I updated some of the “rocket factory” diagrams and added one that shows how the system snapshot works with Macs with M-series processors or Intel processors with T2 Security Chips.
  • I added a section to “Manage Partitions” that explains how, under some circumstances, you can enlarge an existing partition that contains data.

Those are just a few of the changes in this edition, which costs only $14.99. If you own a previous version of the book, check your email or sign in at Take Control Books to see if you qualify for special upgrade pricing. Like all Take Control titles, the ebook is available in PDF and EPUB formats.
