WWDC with an Eye Toward Photography

Apple announced the new M2-powered MacBook Air at WWDC this week, but what else is of interest to photographers, specifically related to computational photography? I look at some features to come in my latest Smarter Image column at Popular Photography.

Now that I’m writing specifically about computational photography for my Smarter Image column at Popular Photography, my antennae tend to pick up on new features and technologies with AI and ML underpinnings. At this week’s Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) keynote, Apple announced not only a redesigned MacBook Air powered by the new M2 processor, but shared details of the forthcoming macOS 13 Ventura, iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and watchOS 9.

In my latest column, I look at some of the features that stood out to me, from the laptop itself to features such as Continuity Camera, iCloud Photo Shared Library, and clever ways the systems are acting on understanding the contents of images.
