It may not be an exciting topic, but it’s a necessary one: backups. You know you need them, and maybe you have some pieces of a backup system in place, but it can take a lot of figuring to come up with a good plan, so you may have put it off. (Speaking from experience, here.) If you do creative work, there’s always something more important to think about.
Well, you don’t want to be caught in the lurch when a hard disk fails or a system update goes sideways. Over at CreativePro, I’ve published a new article that breaks down an effective backup system into parts, from at-least-do-this-one-thing to I’ve-got-everything-covered.
Read it here: Backups for Busy Creatives.
While you’re thinking about backups and storage, allow me to recommend two essential books that cover those topics:
- My own Take Control of Your Digital Storage, which dives into hard disks, SSDs, NAS devices, and the underlying technology that makes it all work.
- Joe Kissell’s Take Control of Backing Up Your Mac, which goes into great detail about all things backup-related.
