When we went out for a sunrise photo shoot at the tulip fields near Mount Vernon, Washington, I had a few ideas in my head for what types of photos to create. I’ve been to the Tulip Festival before and shot the types of photos you see of the rows and rows of spectacular color. But for the sunrise, I thought I’d try for something different to capitalize on what I hoped would be a brilliant opportunity for backlighting.
In reality, the sun caught me a little by surprise. With streaks of clouds above, I thought the sunrise might be muted, but no: when the sun broke free of the mountains, it was a wash of color. I was hoping for a different look, and am pleased to have gotten one.
