New Book! Take Control of iPhone Photography

Learn how to take great photos using the camera you always have with you, the iPhone.

When my wife went on a trip to Europe with her mother a few years ago, she asked for my advice on what type of camera to bring. My brain, of course, bubbled with possibilities: compact mirrorless bodies, zoom lenses, accessories. I’m sure she saw all that behind my eyes and pre-empted my response with, “I just want to take a phone. Which one should I get?”

The truth is, today’s iPhones take amazing photos. People who would have never seen themselves as “photographers” regularly capture hundreds of photos because their camera is always with them. It just also happens to play games and access cat videos. And make phone calls or something.

When you start taking pictures, you start to view the world as a photographer, and then you want to take better pictures. My newest book, Take Control of iPhone Photography, helps you do that with your iPhone.

Although the iPhone is designed to be simple to use, there’s a lot of complexity once you get into the details. It wants to properly expose every image using sophisticated computational photography, but what if you want a different exposure? How do you know which camera is being used, and at what resolution? And when do you turn to third-party camera apps for full manual shooting controls?

Take Control of iPhone Photography covers all of that and more. It’s for iPhone owners who have just started taking pictures as well as for people who know the iPhone can do more but don’t know how to access it all. The book is available in PDF and EPUB formats right now for just $13.99.

What did my wife end up taking to Europe? She upgraded to an iPhone 13 Pro, the newest model that year, and had zero regrets. She still uses its camera all the time.
