Like most powerful applications, Lightroom Classic can be a beast to learn and use. That’s one reason I wrote my new book Adobe Lightroom: a Complete Course and Compendium of Features for Rocky Nook. I hear from people who want to get into the Lightroom ecosystem, but get stymied by the features, or the interface, or just the sheer number of options. And I know that even with articles and YouTube videos out there, getting first-hand instruction, with the opportunity to ask questions, is invaluable for a lot of people.
That’s why I’m excited to be doing two live, in-person events at Kenmore Camera in the Seattle area. The first is a free session focusing on the AI/ML-enabled features that have changed how I use Lightroom, such as smart masking, Denoise, and the brand new Lens Blur feature. The second is a paid class that covers the entire Lightroom workflow in ways that respect your time and effort. Reserve your spot at one or both—preferably both!—and bring your questions. Both events will be held in the spacious classrooms at Kenmore Camera in Kenmore (which is just northwest of Seattle). Details:
- How Smart Is Lightroom? AI-Powered Photo Editing – LIVE w/ Jeff Carlson (Saturday, November 18 · 10 – 11am PST): AI technologies are fundamentally changing how we make and edit photos, and that includes working in Adobe Lightroom Classic and the Lightroom ecosystem. While Generative AI is getting attention for creating photorealistic images out of text prompts, technologies based on AI and machine learning are powering some of the most exciting new tools that make it faster and easier to edit your photos. Join Jeff Carlson, author of the new book Adobe Lightroom Course and Compendium (Rocky Nook), for a deep dive into tools such as sophisticated masking, Denoise, and the new Lens Blur.

Creative (and Painless!) Photo Editing in Lightroom – LIVE w/ Jeff Carlson (Saturday, January 13, 2024 · 9am – 12pm PST): Lightroom is one of the best photo editing ecosystems available, but Adobe doesn’t make it easy on us. Is Lightroom Classic too complicated? Is Lightroom desktop too basic? What about the Lightroom mobile apps? And why upload photos to the cloud? From importing to editing to output, there are so many options that it’s easy to put off editing for another day. But you went to all that trouble to go capture good photos—it’s time to make them fantastic. Jeff Carlson, the author of the new book Adobe Lightroom Course and Compendium (Rocky Nook), is here to make sense of it all. We’ll walk through Lightroom workflows that respect your time and focus on creativity so you spend less energy on busywork and more on enjoying the process of creating great photos.
Speaking of Kenmore Camera, they’re having a big Digital Photo Expo November 3-5, with lots of speakers and sales.
