How to Get the Most Out of Your iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro Cameras

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro cameras hide a lot of complexity under the surface. My new article at DPReview reveals some secrets.

DPReview has published an article I’ve wanted to write since the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro first came out. As I was shooting sample galleries of the iPhone 15 Pro that I bought, and then review units of the iPhone 15 Plus and iPhone 15 Pro Max (to test that 5x zoom), I kept running into complexity. Yes, you can capture 48 megapixels of resolution using each device, but sometimes the camera won’t oblige, such as when you shoot in Night mode that results in 12 MP resolution. Or if you invoke Macro mode when the telephoto camera is active, you’ll end up with really terrible results because the system is actually making a tiny crop of the Ultrawide camera and scaling that up digitally. This article covers those examples plus a few other things (like how to lock focus and exposure, a feature that’s been present since the original iPhone and that few people seem to know about).
