iPhone 15 Pro vs iPhone 15: Tested and Compared

At DPReview, I compare the iPhone 15 Pro to the iPhone 15 Plus to see how the camera systems hold up against each other.

I’ve had a lot of fun making photos with the latest iPhone 15 models, most recently publishing sample galleries for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Plus at DPReview. But how do the camera systems stack up in a head-to-head comparison? I took them out a couple of weeks ago with a jerry-rigged contraption (and feeling like I was some kind of photo-nerd Gandalf with it on top of a monopod) to capture the same photos from each model:

The result is a new article at DPReview: iPhone 15 Pro vs iPhone 15: Tested and Compared.

In short, the Pro is still the one to get if you’re at all serious about mobile photography, but the non-Pro models hold their own quite well (with some limitations I describe in the article).

Jeff, a great review on the new iPhone 15 PRO. I have the 15 Pro Max. One amazing new feature you did not comment about is the new “Spacial Video” 3D that the 15 Pro series has and it can be used now through installing Public Beta’s of IOS as I am doing.

The 3D/Spatial Video uses the two WA lenses (Apple changed the 3 lens locations on the 15 PRO to allow this feature) on the 15 Pro in a side by side mode (Landscape position) to achieve 3D video capture. The upcoming Apple Vision product due in early ’24 will utilize this new 3D capability.

For now there is no option to capture 3D stills, but, one can grab frames from the 1080 video to utilize for stills and I’m hoping that a 3D still photo option will come out in future IOS versions.

There also an app now (I am using it) for iPad and iPhone to convert the Spatial video to common over/under and side by side 3D video formats to allow viewing on other 3D devices including Quest 2 and 3, 3D TVs, etc.

    TY!

Hi Al. Yes, the spatial video capture is exciting! Since it doesn’t yet have a practical benefit for most folks, I didn’t include that in the article, but I’ve already set my video options to record spatial for when I get together with family over the holidays. I’m looking forward to the possibilities!
