I escaped the gray and rain and cold of Seattle last week in favor of the tropical heat (and a little rain) of Maui. It was mostly a vacation with extended family, but I did manage to do some photography during the trip. This photo, at Waianapanapa State Park on the Road to Hana, was made just at the park entrance. The park’s most notable features are a blowhole that varies depending on the tide (and which was inactive while I was there) and a beach comprised of volcanic black sand. But I was immediately drawn to the carpet of leaves and the way the sun dappled their surfaces.
