This is encouraging: A new 2.0.2 firmware update finally improves the laggy autofocus of the Canon EOS M. The EOS M is a great camera that was initially hobbled by pretty bad autofocus (a reality I address in my book Canon EOS M: From Snapshots to Great Shots). Check out a video comparison of the existing firmware revision (1.0.6) and version 2.0.2 at Canon Rumors: The New EOS M Firmware in Action. The firmware is now available here.
Fraser Speirs installed the update and tweeted:
EOS M firmware 2.0.2 is a huge improvement in multi-point AF speed. Not so noticeable in single-point, which was the fastest AF mode in 1.x.
