PhotoActive #163: Photo Criticism

What makes a photograph good? And who gets to make that judgment? New PhotoActive podcast episode!

One of the things I love about the PhotoActive podcast I co-host with Kirk McElhearn is our different approaches to photography. Yes, there’s a lot of overlap, but (to generalize) Kirk brings much more of a history of photography as an art form, while I have more practical shooting and editing experience. I think it’s a great combination, particularly for an episode such as the latest one where we talk about evaluating photos. Is a “great” photo great because of the time period it was taken? Because it’s appeared in museums? Because someone influential said so?

I really enjoyed this conversation: Episode 163: Photo Criticism.
