I forgot to post this when it was live, but my last Seattle Times column covered making slideshows on the Mac, using iPhoto, iMovie, and iDVD: So many iPhoto options make creating slide shows fun (the headline doesn’t make sense, since it’s not just about iPhoto, but I didn’t write it).

I am using iphoto 6 and want to make a slide show with more than 200 slides. Since iPhoto tells me I am limited to only 99 slides, how can I make 2 or 3 chapters and burn all onto the same DVD?
I know I could make it in iMovie, but I don’t like the title selection or the movie transitions as well.

Janet,
You can make two or three slideshows in iPhoto, then export those as movie files.
Then, in iDVD, add the movie files to a project. That gives your viewer the capability to click any group they want.
If you want the movie files to appear as one long slideshow with chapters, then you’ll need to bring them into iMovie first, and export to iDVD from there. But that’s okay, because you won’t be using iMovie’s slideshow features; you’ll just be putting your iPhoto slideshows (which are just movies now) into an iMovie project.
Hope this helps!
Jeff
I forgot to mention: You can download the entire iDVD portion of my book for free at the following URL, which will tell you how to use iDVD for slideshows.
