My mind reels. Apparently, using red ink to grade students’ papers is “too stressful,” so an elementary school in Connecticut has banned the color from teachers’ editing arsenals: Red ink falling out of favor with teachers (CNN).
Are we raising children to be so coddled that they can’t handle the color red on their homework? Maybe I’ll think differently when I have kids, but this just smacks of too much “everyone should feel good” thinking. Next I’ll read that the color purple (which is gaining in popularity over red) will be banned because it could cause kids to become homosexual. Bah!
