Incredible Incredibles

My copy of The Incredibles 2-disc DVD set arrived today, and I spent all evening watching the movie and the extras. It dawned on me while watching the trailers why I enjoy this movie so much: it delivered. The trailers were great, and the movie turned out to be even better (and the trailers didn’t give away everything).

By contrast, so many other movies look great (okay, sometimes even just good) based on their trailers, but then suck hard in reality. It’s almost blasphemy to say this, but the first time I saw The Matrix I was extremely disappointed. The trailer (via iTunes or fan site) was SO good, and the movie turned out to be a mishmash of recycled sci-fi stuff. (However, I’ve found the Matrix to be that rare movie that improves with multiple viewings. I saw it again after so many people were praising it, and liked it a little. Since then I’ve seen it many times, and now I like it a lot. The sequels, however, completely sucked and basically eroded any positive karma created by the first movie.)

But The Incredibles, man, from the story to the design to the music to the lighting and especially the camera work… fantastic.
