Wired News has an interesting article on how tech companies are trying to woo folks at the Sundance Film Festival: Shall We Do the Tech Sundance?
Calderon said he’s stunned by the plummeting costs and improving quality of hardware and software — and he’s been immersed in video technologies since 1981.
“This isn’t a shifting landscape or a leveling of the playing field,” he said. “We’re on a whole new planet….We can do the same kind of film cutting at home today as was being done in Hollywood studio films five years ago. These technologies are becoming practical and elegant and economical for nearly everyone.”
More than any event, Sundance has come to embody the upheaval in digital filmmaking. With Hollywood continuing to drag its feet on digital exhibition and delivery, Sundance has proven to be an aggressive patron of new technologies.
