Okay, a Positive Movie Review

My wife was working late last night, so I stuck around at the office and watched Changing Lanes, a taut film starring Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Affleck (after seeing Paycheck, I wanted reassurance that Ben can do better with good material).

The movie was very well directed, expertly acted, and kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end. Kudos to Amanda Peet for a small turn as a wife who isn’t afraid to show her darker, selfish side. It was also nice that there were no guns, no overtly evil characters, and no easy answers. The tension is delivered by the way the characters respond (and overreact) to almost everyday situations and deadlines. With the exception of a sort-of “hit man” (bouyed by the great casting of Dylan Baker), the movie is plausible enough.

My faith in cinema is somewhat restored.

Speaking of Ben Affleck, he was on Larry King last night and he sounded like he wanted to run for political office!
