Bush Throwing Money at Programs He Wanted to Cut

For example, Justice Department officials recently announced that they were awarding $47 million to scores of local law enforcement agencies for the hiring of police officers. Mr. Bush had just proposed cutting the budget for the program, known as Community Oriented Policing Services, by 87 percent, to $97 million next year, from $756 million.

Please please please tell me that people see this for what it is: shenanigans to win re-election, and not any sort of program to help people in need (after all, this money could have been given at any time; in fact, how are we doing with all that aid to local law enforcement and emergency services following 9/11?).

Throw. Bush. Out.
