I’m in Phoenix this weekend, where my wife is attending a work function. She and I arrived by car after traveling throughout Arizona during the week, but we heard a funny bit of conversation from one of her co-workers.
President Bush was in Phoenix briefly yesterday, and so Kim’s co-worker’s plane was forced to circle the airport while Air Force One landed. Being the anti-Bush outspoken person that she is, she made some comment like, “Hasn’t Bush already inconvenienced me enough?” This provoked twitters among the people sitting near her, and more comments: “I hear he’ll be collecting checks as we get off the plane,” and “The Republicans are more sophisticated than that: they can take credit cards, too.”
I’m finding that it’s really hard to tell which way the country is leaning about Bush, but it makes me feel better to hear that people aren’t buying the “we should support the President no matter what” stance that has crippled the U.S. in recent years.
