Bush made a call for a constitutional amendment barring gay marriage today, cementing the fact that our President is not only a warmonger, but a bigot, too. I’m surprised that the administration is taking this up as a big issue, but then again, it’s an easy way to mobilize their right-wing Christian base during an election year, and get people talking about something besides that pesky failing war, that pesky failing economy, etc.
So, on the drive in to work, my wife asked, “Just what is the difference between marriage and a civil union?” Obviously, it’s more than just the word “marriage” (though that seems to be a big factor, too), so I did a quick Google search: Civil Marriage v. Civil Unions — What’s the Difference? (GLAD). It’s a starting place, at least.
