Yes, there’s more on television than war coverage, but I can’t turn on the TV without checking out CNN or BBCAmerica. But tonight is the Academy Awards, which promise to at least be something different.
I know, I could also turn the TV off, but since hostilities in Iraq, I’ve found myself copelled to watch coverage. On with the show!
Update: So far, all the awards are even great, surprisingly! Chris Cooper just gave a touching acceptance speech, Lord of the Rings took the special effects award, and Spirited Away beat out all the American crap to take the animation award. Looks promising so far…
Plus, the producers have gotten wise: in case speeches get out of hand, not only does the orchestra start to play, but the microphone drops into the floor! Amazing they never thought of that earlier.
